The Story of Villa Rey

Where Vision Meets a Sense of Home

When we travelled through rural Umbria in the 1990s, we fell in love not only with the landscape but with a way of life: a deep connection to nature, the rhythm of the seasons, and those unforgettable moments at long tables where people laugh, debate, and share good food.

From this love, a vision was born in 2002: to create a place that brings people together. A small, refined country hotel that preserves the soul of Umbria while embracing modern responsibility.

Built with Passion, Guided by Values

In August 2006, Villa Rey opened its doors. From the very first sketch, it was important to us that the house itself would tell a story. We built it with the people from here: local craftsmen laid elegant travertine from the quarries of San Casciano dei Bagni and worked with warm Italian chestnut wood.
Today, Villa Rey is a place of connection: six exclusive rooms, a spacious pool, and—at the heart of it all—a restaurant with a long communal table for shared culinary discoveries and genuine conversation.

A Team That Feels Like Family

For us, sustainability also means social responsibility. Our team is made up of people from the surrounding villages—people who are rooted here. Our chef Riccardo grew up just one kilometre from Villa Rey. You can feel this connection in every detail and in every dish we serve: authentic, regional, and free from unnecessary additives.

Your Hosts: Expertise Meets a Spirit of Adventure

Behind Villa Rey stand the two of us: Silvia Rey and Jürgen Komolka.

Silvia, an economist specialising in tourism, has been organising mountain bike trips since 1990—often together with her brother, mountain bike legend Hans “No Way” Rey.

Jürgen, an engineer and passionate mountain biker, shares her vision of sustainable, environmentally conscious travel.

Together, we are your hosts. We have created a place that offers space for a truly individual holiday—where dolce vita and a clear conscience go hand in hand.
